3 Up 3 Down: Game 4

That was an amazing game. The Indians played a very solid series opener versus the LA Angels, coming out on top 6-0. (Michigan also got crushed in the National Championship, win-win.)

Not too much to complain about today with Mike Clevinger. “The Flow” threw a solid 5.1 Innings of shutout baseball. He struck out just under half a dozen and only gave up 2 walks. But, nobody is safe in these reviews. Clevinger was rolling through the Angels lineup until the 4th inning. Then, that same inning, he tossed over 25 pitches, really shortening his day. Mike needs to limit those bad stretches in order to be considered an elite pitcher.

That bats were great again for the Tribe, opening up an early lead with a once in a lifetime Edwin Encarnacion inside the park home run. (Ok, He also did it in 2008, but I didn’t even know he played in the majors then.) Yonder Alonso and Tyler Naquin also got into the action with BIG home runs of their own. The long ball is the most exciting thing in baseball; however, it’s inconsistent. The Indians didn’t get a runner into scoring position until the 8th inning and that’s not creating a winning formula. The Tribe can’t always rely on the deep ball and need to get into scoring position at a more constant rate.

To generate more runners in scoring position, the top of the order needs to get their act together. Francisco Lindor and Jose Ramirez are both batting under the Mendoza Line and that needs to change and fast. Lindor is slowly looking better, but Ramirez hasn’t even gotten a hit yet and his problems need to be solved in order for the Indians to be a competitive team this season.

Finally, the bullpen looked outstanding tonight. Through the arms of Tyler Olson, Nick Goody, Zach McAllister, and Matt Belisle, the relievers managed to close out the final 3.2 innings without giving up a run.

Great win for the Tribe today. Hopefully they continue to play like this for the rest of the year.

Next Game: 4/3 vs LA Angels. Josh Tomlin (0-0) vs Garrett Richards (0-0) 7.20 ERA

Indians Record: 2-2

As Always, GO TRIBE
