You Know Bro, That’s a Home Run Pitch

The Indians are officially not dead. Despite trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the 10th, the Indians were able to come from behind and win 5-3 off a Jose Ramirez walk-off 3 run shot. I was ready to come write a blog, ranting about how poorly we’ve been playing, but I quickly threw that out the window. I’ve been trying to be a more optimistic Cleveland sports fan, and Jose makes it a lot easier to do that.

Not only did the Indians clinch their playoff spot tonight, but they have also managed to tighten this AL Central race. The Indians are only 3 games back of the White Sox and still have two games left with them this series. The Twins are only 1 game back of Chicago, but they still have to face the Cincinnati Reds who will be fighting for their playoff lives, so hopefully, they take care of Minnesota. If the Indians sneak up to the three seed, they will be far more likely to make a run in the AL playoffs, rather then facing Oakland or Tampa Bay in the first round.

There’s really only two guys pulling this season along: and it’s been star pitcher Shane Bieber and the aforementioned Ramirez. Unless Shane Bieber craps the bed tomorrow versus Giolito, he’s got the AL CY Young Award all but wrapped up, and Jose has thrown himself right in the race for MVP. He leads all players in the AL in fWAR and his walk-off tonight will be something that voters will remember when they cast their ballots. The Indians’ offense would be completely anemic without Jose in the middle of the order, so MVP voters should take that into further consideration before they vote. Tim Anderson and Jose Abreu are the two other front runners for MVP, but they’re surrounded by other great bats (each other) in that Chicago lineup.

Tonight was a night that the Tribe convinced me that they can still win the World Series. If Bieber loses tomorrow I will lose all confidence again, but as of now, I’ll continue to ride an emotion filled high.

Oh, and did I forget to mention something: “You know bro, that’s a home run pitch” -Jose Ramirez.
