Mark Cuban: Resuming NBA Season Mid-May

The 2019-2020 NBA season was suspended indefinitely earlier this month amidst concern surrounding the Coronavirus. However, Mavs owner Mark Cuban is optimistic about a hopeful return in Mid-May.

“Hopefully by the middle of May, we’re starting to get back to normal and the NBA is playing games…Maybe not with fans, but we’re playing it because sports plays such an important role. You know, people want something to cheer for, people want something to rally around, people want something to be excited about.”

He did note some uncertainty but went on to say, “If I had to guess based off the people I’ve talked to at the CDC…I would say the over/under would be June 1st, and I would take the under.”

League Commissioner Adam Silver has not yet made a decision on when or if the 2019-2020 season will continue.

“We’re exploring all options to resume our season when and if it is safe to do so…Nothing is off the table.”

Cuban wants everyone to know that he still believes the NBA should wait to get the medical clearance and clearance from the CDC, but also believes the season should eventually resume once it is deemed safe.

And dammit, Mark Cuban is right. I know that in life there are much, much bigger things than sports. Believe me, I’ve heard it from my girlfriend time and time again. But in a time like this, I can’t tell you how much higher my morale would be on a daily basis if I were able to watch some baseball or basketball. And while I know that they play such an important role in how games turn out, I could care less whether there are fans present. I think I speak for nearly every sports fan out there when I say that I would personally contract the Coronavirus just so we could have sports back.

Give me break away dunks, give me home runs and double plays, and dammit give me the roner virus itself if it means sports will come back. I’m praying Mark Cuban is correct and I’m hoping that the CDC hammers that under and we can have our beloved sports back. Hell, I’ll take anything over watching Batchelor reruns and the Real Housewives of Who Gives A Shit.
