Do You Agree With Bleacher Report’s ‘NFL – Top 25 Under 25’?

With sports on a current hiatus, many sportswriters have resorted to drumming up millions of ‘hypotheticals’. One of the most popular ones going around social media is listing your Top 5, 10, 25, etc. Well, popular sports media website Bleacher Report released their Top 25 players under 25 years of age. I’m here to tell you that it’s very controversial and many people are not agreeing with the list.

From the Cleveland Browns, the list includes Nick Chubb coming in at No. 20 on the list, and Myles Garrett coming in at No. 10. I would imagine that this would make many Browns fans happy. Having two very young players on your team rank in someone’s hypothetical Top 25 list is not something to sneeze at. However, when you see where others are ranked on the list it may make some people’s blood boil. Here are some of my biggest takeaways from the article.

Saquon Before Zeke?!

The list has Dallas Cowboys running back, and former Ohio State Buckeyes National Champion, Ezekiel Elliot, coming in at No. 14. Which at first glance seems well deserved! But, who comes in one slot ahead of him? Saquon Barkley. While both running backs have shown significant promise in their own right, I find it hard to believe that you can say Saquon is a better running back than Zeke. Saquon has only played 1 full season and hasn’t 100% proven what he can do (yet), compared to Zeke who, yes has had his fair share of off-the-field issues, but has proven that he’s a force to be reckoned with. Maybe I’m overthinking this, but what else am I able to do during the ‘Roner Pandemic?

Wait…Lamar is how high?!

Coming in at No. 1 on the list is Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes. This is probably the most well-deserved spot on the list. Mahomes has been unstoppable since he got his first start in KC. Coming in at No. 3 on the list is DeShaun Watson from Houston. Another well-deserved spot, DeShaun has been amazing for the Texans. But, splitting the gap between them at No. 2, Baltimore QB Lamar Jackson. Now, don’t get me wrong, Lamar had an MVP caliber season in 2019 and man did he take the league by storm. But are we ready to say he’s better than DeShaun Watson? Is he better at his position than Joey and Nick Bosa are at theirs? Is he better at his position then Christian McCaffrey is at running back, who came in at No. 11 on this list? I don’t know. Lamar was amazing last season showing talent we haven’t seen in the NFL in a long time (since Vick) but I don’t know if he’s the No. 2 player in the league under 25 years of age.

Did Dalvin Cook get snubbed?

Minnesota Vikings running back, Dalvin Cook, came in at No. 18 on this list. From the running backs on this list, coming in in front of him were Zeke, Saquon, Kamara, and McCaffrey. Maybe this is how the list should’ve been played out, but in your opinion, do you think Cook got snubbed? Maybe it’s enough just to be considered for this list, but I think Dalvin could’ve stood to get a higher spot on the list.

Now, if you’re reading this and thinking, “who the hell cares?”, I ask that you politely go kick rocks. We’re completely without sports, so articles and anecdotes like this one are what we sports fan have left. It may not be the best thing you want to read right now, or it may be exactly what you want to read right now. All it’s meant for is to spark some discussion amongst fans who miss sports. Don’t be the person who comments and makes everything very negative, just go about your day like you were before, or join the conversation, give your opinion, and respect others. That’s all we have right now and all we can do, respect those around you and try to have some fun during this whole debacle.

Hopefully you found this article thought provoking.
